Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue

Course Description:

Our Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado based Crevasse Rescue course prepares you for traveling on glaciated terrain. You’ll learn about glacial gear, strategies for climbing as a roped team, and the skills necessary to rescue yourself and your partner(s) from a crevasse.  These skills are essential for those planning to climb on glaciated peaks like Mount Rainier and Denali. 

If you plan to travel in glaciated terrain, then this is the course for you.  We'll touch briefly on anchors, but will focus mostly on learning rope systems so that you can get yourself out of a crevasse or pull someone else out of one.  Our expert guides will teach you such skills as:

  • Know how to read glacial terrain
  • Understand basic systems for rigging rope teams
  • Learn the fundamentals of mechanical advantage and hauling systems
  • Practice multiple rescues
  • Learn to avoid common pitfalls

    General mountaineering experience, understanding of basic snow anchors, and basic knots/hitches
