We'll likely meet early in the morning at Chautauqua Park so that we can avoid climbing on an east face during the hottest part of the day. The approach takes about 35 to 50 minutes depending on which Flatiron we are climbing. Once at the base, we'll don our climbing equipment: Helmet, harness, and rock climbing shoes. The configuration of the Flatirons requires us to climb with all our equipment. This means that we'll be carrying our packs while we climb. So pack light and only bring the absolute essentials.
The climb itself will take several hours to complete as we negotiate steep and varied terrain as we scale a thousand-foot cliff face. Once on the summit, we will do a dramatic free-hanging rappel back to terra firma. From there it is another 45 min to an hour back to the trailhead.
*Note: We have helmets, harnesses, rock shoes and technical equipment if you need.

However, the best time of year to climb a Flatiron in Boulder, Colorado is during the spring and fall when temperatures are mild and the weather is generally more predictable.
