This introductory course provides an introductory overview of rock climbing, covering the basics of the sport, equipment needed, safety protocols, and techniques required for successful climbs. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practice, participants will learn how to climb safely and efficiently, using proper gear and techniques.
By the end of this course, participants will have a solid foundation in rock climbing, and will feel confident and prepared to pursue the sport further. Whether you're interested in pursuing climbing as a recreational activity or looking to tackle bigger objectives, this course provides a great starting point for your journey.
Note: We have helmets, harnesses, belay devices, and rock climbing shoes that are free to use during any of our programs.
This course is an introduction to the sport and as such we will primarily be top roping. This means that the rope is above you at all times in case of a fall. While it might feel very exposed and dangerous you will actually be exposed to very little danger.
Basic safety protocols such as partner checks, belaying, knot tying, and top rope anchors will be covered, as well as risk management and emergency response.
If at any point you want to come down from a climb all you have to do is sit back into your harness and your belayer will lower you.
That is fine, most of the climbing technique comes from body position and using your legs for support. We will start you out on easy routes that will help build your confidence and abilities.
We will secure the ropes at the top of the cliff before letting you climb. This will be accomplished by either walking around, setting an anchor and dropping the rope or leading up to an anchor.
Alpine to the Max is an independent certified guide with more than a decade of experience in a wide variety of terrain. No matter your current skill level, when you climb with us you get a top-notch experience that is fully customized to meet your exact desires.
