Max Lurie is an American Mountain Guides Association certified Rock and Alpine Guide, as well as an accomplished alpinist. Max has been climbing since 2004 and traveling to the greater ranges in pursuit of his passion.
As an independently certified climbing guide based in Boulder, CO, Max provides custom education and mountain experiences in the Colorado Front Range and beyond. All of the climbing instruction offered through Alpine to the Max is customized to your goals, objectives, and skill level.
Our one-day rock rescue course is designed to provide climbers with the skills and knowledge necessary to respond to emergency situations that may arise while climbing. The course covers a variety of topics and includes both classroom instruction and hands-on practice. Here is a detailed curriculum:

Throughout the day, our experienced instructors will provide guidance and feedback to help participants develop their skills and knowledge. By the end of the course, climbers will have gained the confidence and competence to respond effectively to a wide range of rock rescue situations.

Yes, it is recommended that participants have prior experience in rock climbing and basic climbing techniques before taking a rock climbing rescue course. Having prior understanding and experience with trad climbing will greatly benefit you on this course.
A rock climbing rescue course is not physically demanding, but it can be mentally taxing. As it involves minimal climbing, but expect to be exposed to lots of new skills. Participants should be comfortable hanging in their harnesses for 20-30 min at a time while we run through practice scenarios.
Participants will need to bring their own climbing gear, including a harness, helmet, climbing shoes, and appropriate clothing. We will provide additional rescue equipment, such as ropes and pulleys. If you have any additional equipment you would like to use you are encouraged to bring it along.
In a rock climbing rescue course, you will learn preventative techniques, knots, hitches, improvised rappelling, ascending, belaying, lowering, and improvised rescue techniques.
It really depends, there are an infinite number of scenarios that can be practiced. This one-day course is a great introduction to the topic. But its up to you to practice the skills to become fully proficient.
