The answer is yes and no. This seminar is designed for beginners looking to develop the necessary skills for traveling as an independent rope team in crevassed terrain. However, some previous climbing experience will certainly help you pick up rope management skills faster. Additionally being familiar with crampons and a mountain axe are helpful. Lastly having some back-country camping experience will also benefit you on this seminar.
Unlike other guide services that often travel as large cumbersome groups of 12 or more. We limit our seminars to 5 participants because we feel this is the optimal ratio for learning and experience on the mountain.
Yes! Like all adult education, you get out of it what you put into it. This seminar is an excellent starting point to develop your glacier travel and crevasse rescue skills. It is specifically designed to help you along your path to becoming a self-sufficient mountaineer.
You can refer to the detailed list above. However, if you have specific questions please reach out to us. Purchasing clothing and equipment can be a daunting task, we are here to help. The guidance and education start before we even set foot on the mountain as you prepare for your trip.
This seminar was designed to fit within a week which includes travel time. We will spend four full days on the mountain and two days traveling.
